Identifying 'Perforation Types' on Wilding Booklet Panes
Booklet panes exist in the following principal PERFORATION TYPES:
PANES OF 6:
Ir (imperforate margin with rough cut left hand edge)
Is (imperforate margin with smooth left hand edge)
Ie(t), Ie(m) or Ie(b) (imperforate margin with extra perforation at left of margin,
opposite top, middle or bottom
perforations.) (Usually smooth left hand edge except where 'r' inserted in description
viz. Ire(t), Ire(m) or Ire(b) (indicating rough edge)
PANES OF 4:
AP (margin perforated at left and right only)
AP(2E) (margin perforated at left and right with two perforation holes only)
P (perforated through margin at left, right and centre)
I (margin fully imperforate)
I(½v) (margin imperforate with left or right cut at angle)*
PANES OF 2:
E (single perforation hole into margin top & bottom)
I (margin totally imperforate)
E(½v)t (as perforation type E but cut at angle at top)*
E(½v)b (as perforation type E but cut at angle at bottom)*
I(½v)t (margin imperforate but cut at angle at top)*
I(½v)b (margin imperforate but cut at angle at bottom)*
* Stamp perforations along the edge of the stamps adjacent to the angle cut margin
are torn, rather than guillotined, to separate from adjacent panes in the printed
sheet of panes, so an apparent '½v' pane with guillotined stamp perforations along
the edge adjacent to the '½v' cut would be a forgery.
