Help for those with visual impairments

Visual impairments come in all shapes and sizes, from colour blindness to complete vision loss. We have done our best on this site to cater for as many types of visual impairment as possible.

Changing text size

Both our default user interface and our low vision design allow the resizing of text using your web browser. The only difference is that the default browser will only effectively resize text contained in the main body of the page, while the low vision version will resize all text found on the page.

The method you use to resize the default text size varies between browsers. Below we demonstrate how to change text size on the two main browsers; Internet explorer and Firefox.

Changing text size in Internet Explorer

Internet Explorer 7.0

To resize text in Internet Explorer 7.0 go to Page > Text Size and select the text size you require.

Changing text size in Firefox

Firefox 2.0

In Firefox 2.0 you can select to increase or decrease text size by pressing CTRL + or CTRL - respectively. Alternatively these options can also be found under View > Text Size.

Change the design of this site in order to make it easier to read

If you are blind or partially sighted and use a speech browser, we have endeavoured to make this site as friendly as possible. However, we are always open to criticism so if you spot any problems please contact us, and we will try our best to improve things.

Help for those with motor impairments

Many people also suffer from some form of motor control problem that can make using a mouse very difficult. Because of this, we have added "access keys" to this site. These act as shortcuts to key links on the page, and will work if your web browser supports access keys. The access keys are as follows:

  • A - Accessibility
  • C - Contact us
  • H - return to the Homepage
  • M - site Map
  • P - Privacy statement
  • S - Shop / search
  • T - Terms and conditions

To use an access key hold down the ALT key (or control on a mac) on your keyboard and press the appropriate number or letter listed above. On most browsers, this will immediately jump you to the appropriate page.

However, if you are using Internet Explorer you will then need to press RETURN to activate the link.

How do I get out of low vision mode?

If you've found that you've got stuck in low vision mode and cannot get back to the default layout, just click here and the site will return back to normal.
